ARTIST STATEMENT

I spent ten years working as a corporate web developer, building systems that depended on structure, repetition, and constant updates. Over time, I started to notice how those same patterns showed up in everyday life, how routines, habits, and environments can keep you stuck in the same loop.

That experience shapes how I make my work.

I build my paintings in a way that reflects how I used to write code. I start with a structure, then adjust how it looks and behaves over time. Composition gives the work its foundation, while color, scale, and form shape how it feels. The marks themselves carry movement and decision-making, they show where I took risks, changed direction, or started over.

I work with pencil, graphite, charcoal, conte, and acrylic because they let me move quickly and make changes as I go. I add and remove marks constantly. Nothing is fixed right away. The surface builds over time, holding onto some decisions while letting others go. In that way, each piece becomes a record of the process.

I’m interested in how patterns form and how hard they can be to break. My time in corporate environments made me more aware of those cycles, both in work and in life. Painting gives me a way to slow that down, to question it, and to make different choices.

I don’t try to hide how the work is made. What you see is the result of building, adjusting, and reworking over time.

At its core, the work is about recognizing the systems we live in and asking whether they can change.
